Former U.D.P. City Council Candidate Charged with Discharging Gun in Public

Former U.D.P. City Council candidate and stalwart, Allan Kelly has been charged with discharging a firearm in public and aggravated assault. This is in connection with an altercation that occurred on Police Street in the Lake Independence area of Belize City that reportedly resulted in shots being fired in the presence of a child. A.S.P. Fitzroy Yearwood told us what police investigations have unearthed so far.

“Police visited a scene where neighbours complained that they heard two shots being fired, nuh. But the report that came to my office is that Allan Kelly was arrested and charged for one count of aggravated assault and another count of discharging a firearm in public. Police are saying that when they visited that area sometime after five yesterday evening, that one Samuel Lawson made a report that he was at his girlfriend’s house when Mr. Kelly arrived and an argument ensued between Mr. Kelly and the female. Mr. Lawson is saying that when he walked away from the house and his girlfriend was immediately behind him, and a nine-year-old minor, Mr. Kelly took out a firearm and fired three shots over his head. Investigators did find a licensed nine millimeter belonging to Mr. Kelly. That, of course, was taken away and is now an exhibit and this morning, Allan Kelly was formally arrested and charged.”
