Only Three Communities Left in 2022 Village Council Elections

Josephine Tamai

Village council elections are all but over, save for two communities down south where flooding prevented villagers from coming out to cast their vote a few Sundays ago.  Earlier today, News Five spoke with Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai who told us that elections have been rescheduled for Blue Creek, San Benito Poite and Conejo Creek villages in Toledo District.

Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer

“We have basically concluded most of those and why I say most is, of the one hundred and ninety villages, we have concluded one hundred and eighty-seven.  And the reason being, in the last week of the elections, you all will note that due to flooding that we had in the Toledo District, we had to postpone elections for Blue Creek Village and San Benito Poite. Also, when we had nomination previously for Conejo Creek Village, no one turned up to get nominated.  So we’re going to have those elections again and we’re hoping that persons will turn up to get nominated.  I will tell you that in terms of the nomination date for Conejo Creek, nomination day is this coming Sunday which is the tenth of July at the Toledo Community College. In terms of the election for Conejo Creek, that is set for the seventeenth of July.  Also on the tenth of July, we have the elections for Blue Creek and San Benito Poite Villages as well.  So we’re hoping to conclude those as early as possible.”
