Eleven officers disciplined for failing to work during Mitch
While we noted with relief the very visible presence of the Belize Defense Force during the Hurricane Mitch threat, it seems there were a few police officers missing in action during those tense days. The Ministry of National Security has announced that disciplinary action is being taken against eleven officers found guilty of being absent from duty without official leave. According to the Ministry the officers have been fined amounts equivalent to the time they were absent in accordance with police regulations. Fortunately for the public, the majority of police officers did not abandon their posts, or their public, during the national emergency.
