Famous Archaeologist Dr. David Pendergast Visits Belize

Doctor David Pendergast, a renowned American archaeologist, famous for his work at Altun Ha and Lamanai, returned to London today, following a brief visit to Belize.  Unfortunately, while here in the Jewel, the eighty-eight-year-old ended up being hospitalized at the Belize Medical Associates after suffering a fall at Lamanai Lodge.  From his hospital bed this morning, the famous archaeologist recounted a story that has been told many times over, that is the discovery of the Kinich Ahua Jade Head in the Sun God’s Tomb at Altun Ha.  That discovery was made upon Pendergast’s second visit to Belize in 1964.
