“Macho Camacho” welcomed by Belizean fans
It’s Thursday and you know what that means: cruise ship visitors wandering around town seeing the sites and looking for souvenirs. But while most visitors just blend into the hustle and bustle of the city, one man today became an attraction himself when it was discovered he was none other than Puerto Rican boxing star Hector Camacho, better known as “Macho Camacho”. He and his wife are on the Sea Breeze Cruise to celebrate the renewal of their wedding vows, and if they expected a quiet little trip into Belize City they were surprised by the warm welcome from fans which surrounded them. News Five’s Hyacinth Latchman managed to squeeze her way into the crowd at Brodies deli this morning and have a few words with “Macho” who seemed very happy to be here.

“I came off a cruise: the Sea Breeze Cruise. I am celebrating my re-marriage again and just spend New Year’s with you people. Then I will go home and box on February ninth so you could see me on television.
This is wonderful; I did not expect this.”
Q: “Being a boxer what advice would you give to young people who want to pursue a career in boxing?”
Hector “Macho” Camacho
“Well dedication, stay off drugs, be good to mommy and daddy and happy New Year.”
Q: “What’s in store for “Macho Camacho” for the New Year?”
Hector “Macho” Camacho
“Macho time! I have a heavy schedule this year. I will cover big fights. Hopefully this year I will win another championship and probably retire. This will be my last year.”
Q: “Will you and your family come back to Belize again?”
Hector “Macho” Camacho
“Oh! Quick yeah, tomorrow.”
Thirty-six year old Hector “Macho” Camacho is a champion in three different weight classes: W.B.C. super featherweight and lightweight and W.B.O. welterweight champion. Camacho’s son Hector Camacho Jr. recently won a junior welterweight with his father by his side.
