Head-on Collision Claims Life of Kirk Ramclam

A head-on collision between an S.U.V. and a motorcycle on Monday, has left one driver dead and the other injured. It happened on the Boom/Hattieville Road sometime around two-twenty p.m. and left in its wake a scene littered with debris, a family in mourning and the injured driver recouping at home. News Five’s Marion Ali and George Tillett went to the scene today and filed this report.

It is one of the worst messages any family could receive: a loved one is caught in a road traffic accident and did not survive.
This was the message the Ramclam family of Belize City received on Monday afternoon about their loved one, Kirk Ramclam, Jr. The twenty-seven-year-old was driving a red and black motorcycle towards Ladyville on the Boom/Hattieville Road, when somewhere near miles two and a half; he collided with a 2012 grey Ford Escape SUV, being driven by sixty-three-year-old Samuel Flores, a contractor who was heading in the opposite direction. The impact sent both the SUV and the motorcycle careening off the side of the road.
Ramclam was flung into some bushes, where he reportedly died on the scene. After the collision, the SUV then ripped through the bushes off the road and slammed into a lamp post. The flattened grass at the scene shows the path the SUV took following the collision and before it hit the light post. That impact rendered Flores unconscious. He had to be taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, with minor injuries.
Today, the scene was littered with pieces of broken bike parts. Ramclam’s helmet, visibly damaged, lay beside a piece of the bike he drove.
Our cameras got on the scene in time to capture the badly mangled vehicle being towed away.
Here it is at the Ladyville Police Station where it will be kept until an investigation determines whether its driver will have a court case.
The badly-damaged bike, missing its front wheel, was also on the compound at the police station.
Neither the family of Kirk Ramclam nor Samuel Flores was willing to talk to the media. Flores, still feeling the effects of the crash with the lamp post, was at home recovering from his injuries.
Police investigations into the fatality continue.
