Laddie Memorial Park is Inaugurated in Placencia
The Laddie Memorial Park was inaugurated today on a plot of beachfront property in Placencia Village where Laddie Gillett was shot and killed one year ago. Laddie’s relatives and friends gathered at the park for a brief ceremony in his memory. Musicians Stig Da Artist and Kylon Eiley performed at the event, and family members shared the significance of the park to Laddie’s memory. Those in attendance also participated in a “Finish Laddie’s Run”, a quarter mile run from the Laddie Memorial Park to Laddie’s intended destination on the night of his killing. Here is a brief clip from today’s ceremony in Placencia, courtesy the Laddie Gillett Foundation.

“We wanted to have something that would memorialize his personality, his sprit, his vigor. So, we came up with these various elements. His love of football, as you can see his football there. Now that is where he fell, so that actually covered his blood. The other thing we thought about was the bench, because we wanted a place where everyone could gather, young, old, anyone who just wanted to get together, have a little talk, and find a little rest spot. So, we came up with this design and we are very well happy with the way it turned out, look, and it really does talk to the youthful personality he was, because he never stopped moving. We planted a garden because that is new life; new energy and we hope that this space now will not be a space of sorrow.”
