Public Utilities Minister on Electrifying the Entire Country

Michel Chebat,

During a zoom interview with Minister Chebat today, News Five also asked about the ministry’s plan to electrify the entire country. When the Briceño administration took office, twenty-three villages were not a part of the national grid and did not have electricity. Minister Chebat says that some villages are already being electrified, but through solar technology.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-Governance

“That is a very important milestone for us and we are currently working with the United Arab Emirates in the south of the country where they are going to be establishing, well it is already in the process and that is supposed to come online in September of this year where three of the villages will be electrified down there. We are also looking at adding another two villages down there and one in the north. Duane, this is an ongoing process and because these are remote villages, they are not going to be immediately connected to the national grid, so they are going to have micro grids, meaning they are going to be standing alone and gonna be powered by solar and with battery. Until such time as we have further development that they can be included in the national grid.”
