A 3-Way Vehicular Collision Involving Trucks from B&B and B.S.I.

Early this morning, there was a road traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway near Rhaburn Ridge. The three-way vehicular collision involved a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck, a B.S.I. delivery truck carrying molasses and a passenger bus from Enriquez Bus Company. Information to News Five suggests that several persons were injured during the early morning crash, but luckily, there were no fatalities. At this time, investigations are underway to determine exactly what transpired between miles thirty-eight and thirty-nine.  News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

There was a major accident just before six a.m. today between miles thirty-eight and thirty-nine on the Philip Goldson Highway. Debris from a B.S.I. truck and a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck, as well as the contents of the B&B truck were strewn across the highway where the vehicle came to a stop. A commuter bus belonging to Enriquez Bus Company was also involved in the accident. Reports are that approximately four persons were taken to the hospital following the three-way vehicular collision near Rhaburn Ridge; one of those persons was an employee of Bowen and Bowen.

“This morning, very early, around 5:50 a.m., one of our primary distribution trucks, these are the trailers, was involved in a traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway. This was in the vicinity of Rhaburn Ridge. We are very thankful that there were no fatalities and only very minor injuries for all parties involved. Our driver was in the truck; he got some minor cuts and bruises. He did go into the hospital for just observation and he was released before midday today.”

Police are yet to release any official details of the accident and an investigation is currently underway to determine what happened and who was at fault. According to Bowen and Bowen’s Corporate Relations Manager Rosanna Villanueva, their G.P.S. data indicates that the towhead was within the legal speed limit at the time of the incident.

“We do have GPS trackers on all our trucks, so we are able to track their driving behavior, their speed and things like that. So one of the things that we were able to confirm pretty earlier on was the driver’s speed at the time of the incident and we do know that yes he was within the legal speed limit. We still don’t know the details of the incident, but that yes, we were able to confirm pretty early. As of now, we are still waiting for the investigation. It is ongoing and so we are trying to gather all the details. We are cooperating with the authorities, of course, and our driver as well to try to put together exactly what happened this morning, so we don’t have any details as yet confirmed.”

“The truck was loaded with product going up to Orange walk. And as you saw from the images, due to the accident, there was a lot of damage. We had a team that was on the scene pretty soon after the incident happened. They were of course, first concerned with the safety of everyone involved and after all of that was sorted out, they started cleaning up. So we have already cleared all the debris from the side of the road.”

An estimate of the loss has not been determined as yet. A contingency was quickly put in place to ensure that its customer’s needs are met. Duane Moody for News Five.

B.S.I. issued a release this afternoon saying that one of its molasses trucks was badly damaged in the road traffic accident, but that no molasses was spilled. In the release, B.S.I. says that its truck was traveling at approximately forty-two miles per hour, as the fleet speed is controlled and locked at a maximum of forty-five miles per hour to mitigate speeding challenges. The release ends by saying that the B.S.I. team has worked to remove all debris from the highway and normalize traffic flow.
