Replacements Being Sought for Members of the Public Service Commission

Henry Charles Usher

Minister Henry Charles Usher confirmed with News Five today that the contract for several members of the Public Service Commission, including that of Chairman Charles Gibson, expired at the end of June. Prime Minister John Briceño is in the process of recommending a new chairman and replacements for the other members are being identified. So what does it mean for cases before the commission such as that of forestry officer Daniel Chi who reportedly cut off a call with the P.M. earlier this year? Minister Usher says that no meetings have been set since the end of June to address these cases.

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Constitutional & Political Reform

“Certainly, we have to get the commission going again. It is not all the members that their term expired the end of June. We still have, I believe, two members that are still sitting; their term has not expired. But the term of the chairman has expired and the prime minister needs to make that recommendation to the Governor General and then she will make the appointment as soon as possible. There were no meetings scheduled between the end of June and now so even if we had a commission, they would not have met. But we certainly want to call a meeting very soon. There are a number of disciplinary issues that need to go to hearing so we need to set hearing dates for those as well.”
