Woman dies in St. Martin De Porres fire
It was either a domestic dispute which turned deadly or a horrifying coincidence, but a fire in the St. Martin De Porres area last night has left neighbors stunned and one woman dead. Hyacinth Latchman was at the scene today.
No one knows what really happened, but last night a fire at 5451 Tibruce Street claimed a woman’s life and left her companion seriously burned. According to neighbors, forty-eight year old Isolene Garcia, who was a well known fruit vendor, and her common law husband fifty-six year old George Joseph had a loud heated argument around 9:30 p.m. Moments later the couple’s home was in flames.

“I ran out of my house and came on the street and saw a bit of fire. It light up the whole of our yard from this distance. When we come around here the young lady Rose was shouting that the lady was left in the house and the man run out in flames. Well I never believe because the lady is a lady that could move around and so. I could not believe she was locked in the house. I couldn’t believe that she get caught in the house.”
Joseph is said to be suffering from second-degree burns to a large portion of his body and is unable to speak. Reports are that someone was calling for help but the fire spread so quickly and it was impossible for anyone to enter the house.
All police could confirm with News Five is George Joseph’s age. They would not comment on whether they are investigating this as a possible murder. At this point the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
