Church holds Christmas dinner
They say, “Tis the season for giving” and this afternoon close to ninety school children and senior citizens sat down at the building of Abundant Life Ministries on East Collet Canal, to enjoy a hearty Christmas lunch, courtesy of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The meal is just one of many the church has been holding since it started its feeding program in 1988. According to Pastor Leslie Gillett, the Community Services Director for the church in Belize, they have been feeding about sixty-five persons on a daily basis at the soup kitchen. But before the anxious children and guests could dig into today’s special meal of rice and beans, salad and stew turkey, they first joined in a prayer of thanks which was led by Pastor Gillett.
Pastor Leslie Gillett, Seventh Day Adventist Church
“You have provided the cooks, you have provided the food and now we have the privilege of partaking.
Because this is the end of the, we have come down to the end of the year practically, and this is when the children and the elderly folks look forward to having their special Christmas dinner as we would say, so the folks inside are just about ready to serve the children. And of course as you can see they are just waiting for the moment to partake.”
The feeding program is funded by the business community and some very generous citizens.
