Our Circle Launches Equality Fellowship
Our Circle has partnered with the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives to provide training towards enhancing the visibility, inclusion, and rights of families formed by lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender persons living in Belize. For the past eight years, Our Circle has been training its volunteers to serve the marginalized. Now, twenty-five young and emerging human rights activists will get a chance to expand their capacity through Our Circle’s Equality Fellowship.
Derricia Castillo- Salazar, Managing Director, Our Circle
“Our Circle, in partnership with the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives is proud to launch the equality fellowship. This fellowship came out of project that was done with the British High Commission through the foreign Commonwealth Office. The aim of this fellowship is to sustain and support human rights advocacy in Belize, by advancing the capacity of young and emerging human rights defenders. The fellowship is designed for not only those who are active in human rights movements, but also for those who are interest and would like to re-kindle their advocacy efforts throughout Belize.”
Mateo Barney, Program Manager, C.F.F.L.I.
“The project is funded through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, which is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. This fund helps to support small organizations around the world to advance priority issues, including human rights. We are pleased that through this mechanism we are able to work with Our Circle in promoting this important priority for Canada, in Belize, which is the advancement of human rights.”
