B.D.F. Minister Says More Psychiatric Assistance is Needed

Florencio Marin Jr.

When asked about the tragic incident, Minister of National Security Florencio Marin Junior told the media that there are ongoing efforts to seek psychiatric assistance, as well as help with financial literacy for B.D.F. personnel.  Minister Marin refrained from responding to questions regarding the family’s concerns.

“We are always speaking with the general where we are trying to see if we could get more psychiatric help for our soldiers, perhaps even pastoral help for them.  And as well, not necessarily in the psychiatric part, but we are also talking about some kind of financial literacy help, as well.  Because, I mean, the soldiers they are trained for warfare and they are not trained for all these other issues, you know, they have a life to live as well.  You know, some of them have families and they need to learn how to manage their money since, you know, they spend a lot of time away from home.”

“Sir, but the family of this soldier, they have a grievance in the sense that they feel like the B.D.F., that she had been going through some assault on the grounds and that the BDF knew about it and I guess they felt like the B.D.F. didn’t do enough to protect her after she had gone through all of this.”

Florencio Marin Jr.

“Firstly, can you wait until we have the funeral of the sergeant first before we get into the issues.  The little I will share with you is that the B.D.F. is in communication with the family.  But I’d rather, you know, out of respect for the family and for the sergeant, let’s put her to rest first.”

“But is the police investigating anything in relation to this incident?”

Florencio Marin Jr.

“The police are involved.”
