Salvation Army holds Christmas party
While many of us are running around helping Santa Claus find the gifts our children are asking for, the Salvation Army has been remembering those children who might otherwise not have a very merry Christmas. Through their annual kettle appeal the Salvation Army held their annual children’s party for two hundred children today at the Bishop Sylvestre Memorial Centre.
Captain Stanley Griffin, Regional Commander
“This event is one of the ways in which we spend the money. We go out and purchase gifts and also food. We try to reach the less fortunate.
I hope that they will understand the true meaning of Christmas. It’s a time of sharing and caring. Despite they might not be in a financial position to go to one of the leading stores and buy the expensive gifts, they will know that someone cares for them and that they too can enjoy Christmas in their own way.”
Griffin says that for every dollar collected during the kettle appeal ninety-five cents goes back to the community in donations. Special guest at the luncheon was the Governor General of Belize, Sir Colville Young. On Thursday the Salvation Army will be handing out food parcels at the Salvation Army on Cemetery Road at 9 p.m. and visiting the prison on December thirteenth. On the fifteenth they will provide a Christmas dinner at Ghann’s Rest House. The Salvation Army School will have its Christmas party the following day.
