KTV the Remix: the Semifinal Round Begins

It’s week five of your weekly dose of KTV the Remix and tonight, the semi-finals begin inside the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. You are in for a treat because each week, one competitor will be going home, but that will be determined by the voters and the judges. Social Media host, Duane Moody shares details of the twists and excitement of the show, which starts at eight p.m.

Tonight, five delegates will compete in hopes of advancing in Channel Five’s entertainment show, KTV the Remix Season Four. But to determine which five will be battling this first semifinal round, there is a twist. On stage tonight, the judges will decide who from the bottom two will leave the competition. Consulting Producer Karen Vernon breaks down what it is going to look like.

“Tonight instead of just two people being eliminated, we will call to the stage the bottom two and the people with the people with the least votes. They will pick a song out of a hat and they will battle for a spot to stay on KTV. So this week, we have five people competing.”

“So who determines which one of the bottom two moves forward? That’s up to the judges or to the viewers?”

Karen Vernon

“The judges have a say. So the first one will sing his or her song, the second one will do the same and then the judges will decide who stays and who goes home. So it is going to be kind nerve-racking.”

The remaining five will then perform their chosen song. This week’s genre is Latin music.

Karen Vernon

“As we go into the semi final round which is week five tonight, the contestants are very nervous, but they are excited. And the genre is Latino and that’s making them nervous because they are mostly English-speaking people.”

For a treat, tonight’s show will kick off with a group performance.

Karen Vernon

“We start out with a group song which they have been rehearsing with Giselle Obrien who has been their vocal training. And then we move on to the elimination round and then we move on to the five solo artists competing for their spot tonight. I think it is exciting for the public because for the past four weeks, we have been eliminating the bottom two people and they have known before, so I am sure word gets out, hey I won’t be on tonight. But tonight, nobody knows until everybody is on the stage, so it is exciting and nerve-racking for the competitors as well as the audience and the general public. So let’s see how it will pan out tonight. Who will stay and who will go home.”

“So you have to vote for your favourite so that that person is not in the bottom?”

Karen Vernon

“You have to vote because you don’t want your favourite to be competing and having the judges say hey, you didn’t do too well. You might have an off night and you don’t want that to happen. You don’t want to end up in the battle so vote for your favourite competitor. Vote, vote, vote!”
