Police Pathologist says prisoner’s death an accident

Despite some concern that his death may not have been an accident, the police department’s pathologist said today that Orange Walk resident Ivan Cruz died of multiple head and neck injuries characteristic of a road traffic accident. Yesterday police reported that they were called to Guinea Grass Village early Sunday morning after the twenty-three year old Cruz had violated a protection order issued on behalf of his wife Senaida, broken into her home and assaulted her. Orange Walk police say they were transporting Cruz in the back of their vehicle when he allegedly jumped out and received head injuries. He was taken to the hospital but died Sunday afternoon.
