Youth arrested for robbery at Taiwanese Embassy
Police have also detained a man they believe committed two robberies in Belize City over the past few days, one at the Taiwanese Embassy on Friday and the other at the Fisheries Department on Monday. In both cases a well-dressed young man entered the office during the lunch hour and purported to be looking for someone. At the embassy, he demanded money, attacked a lone female employee then fled. Although he did not turn violent at the fisheries office, he did not get away but was pursued by two employees who caught him and turned him over to authorities. The eighteen year old student of the Center for Employment Training, Denfield Lemoth, appeared in Magistrate’s Court today where he pleaded guilty to one count of theft. For the robbery of the Taiwanese Embassy he was given five years for theft and one year for aggravated assault. In addition Lemoth was given two years for stealing one hundred and fifty dollars from the fisheries employee and he was given two years for a robbery at Registry office in Belize City. The sentences will run consecutively. Lemoth will appear in court February twenty-fifth, 1999 to answer charges for four counts of theft against Belize City residents. Police authorities say that Lemoth might have been on parole from prison.
