Will Goodin Resign and Force a Bye-Election?

According to P.M. Briceño, the People’s United Party is confident that fielding a new candidate, should there be a bye-election to fill Goodin’s seat, will result in another victory at the polls.

“Well that’s another matter that needs to be discussed by the city council, not by me.  The city council has their own bylaws and they should discuss that.  They could look at what the precedent was before and if the precedent was that they can get a stipend then probably he should get a stipend.”

“What does this say at the political level though, because if he is to resign from his seat as a councilor it would trigger a bye-election which comes back to the P.U.P. fielding a candidate.”

“We are not afraid of a bye-election.  You’ve seen what has happened in the elections so far.  For the municipal elections we won everyone except one mayorship in San Ignacio/Santa Elena.  Mayor Trapp and one seat there, and again they were by very few votes.  Village councils, we won what, about a hundred and forty, almost a hundred and fifty of the village councils, so we’re not afraid of a bye-election.  But I think that we need to allow the city council, they are autonomous, for them to make that decision.”
