NDACC launches don’t drink and drive campaign

Story Picture
Every year it seems the joy of the Christmas season is marred by some tragic, senseless accident often caused by one of those involved being intoxicated. This year the National Drug Abuse Control Council, as part of its fight against the misuse of alcohol and other drugs, has launched a special anti-drunk driving campaign for Christmas which is only two weeks away. According to Kim Avila, NDACC’s Research and Information Officer, they are appealing to motorists to be careful about their alcohol consumption and have an accident free Christmas.

Kim Avila, Research/Information Officer, NDACC

“We have had several accidents over the years and statistics show that last year alone, we had over a hundred traffic accidents and most of them involve young men. And we know that around Christmas time people like to drink and drive, so we are trying to focus it around this time because we know traffic accidents can really ruin a family Christmas.”

NDACC advises all drivers to obey four basic rules that will ensure them a safe trip back home this Christmas. One, try to avoid alcoholic beverages; two, designate a driver, someone who has not been drinking, to do the driving; three, either walk or take the bus or get a taxi. And finally, if you can’t do any of these things stay overnight and drive home the next day.
