Peyrefitte Calls Internal Fighting in the U.D.P. “Unfortunate” and “Sad”
Peyrefitte opined that what is happening in the Opposition Party now that it has been in government for so long is not uncommon. He also compared the U.D.P’s internal rift to the P.U.P’s when they also had internal disputes. In fact, Peyrefitte said he feels that what the U.D.P. is experiencing now is “child’s play”.
Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.
“It’s very unfortunate and it’s sad, but it’s a re-run. It’s not some new movie or some new concept. Parties in opposition, especially in early years of being in opposition after being in government for a decade and changing leaders, you go through these things. Like I said all the time, what the P.U.P. went through between 2008 to 2010 -12, man this is child’s play compared to that. Nothing can destroy the U.D.P.”

“It can splinter.”
“Well, yes, and it has also come back and won! So nothing can destroy the U.D.P. The U.D.P. is like boxing. You can’t destroy that sport, no matter how many Don Kings you have. It can’t be destroyed. The U.D.P. is not just one or two individuals. At its lowest point in the history of this country, the U.D.P. had thirty-two thousand people vote for it. It is not going to be destroyed by just a few individuals. The organization is bigger than anyone of us.”
