Farmer’s Market property at center of alleged burglary

Story PictureA prime piece of property at the Farmer’s Market has sparked controversy between two parties. The building, located at number one Farmer’s Market, was owned by fifty-eight year old Laura Leonardo, who either bought the building from the Development Finance Corporation or got a loan from them to buy it. According to reports, Leonardo began having problems meeting her payments and so approached Yvonne Ramclam and offered her the building for fifty thousand dollars. The woman claims that on February ninth, however, Ramclam showed up at her house with two police officers and told her that she had an eviction warrant, but refused to show her the document. The following day, Leonardo says Ramclam and some of workers went into her house and removed a variety of household items worth over a hundred and ninety-two thousand dollars. But today, Ramclam’s husband visited Channel Five, claiming that the information put forward by the police is false and threatened to sue Leonardo and the authorities. According to Ramclam, he and his wife bought the building from the D.F.C. in September 2008 and Leonardo was given two weeks notice to move out. Ramclam says they decided to give her thirty days, but Leonardo asked to stay until January. But when January fourth approached and she had still not vacated the premises, Ramclam says they went to court and got an eviction warrant, but still Leonardo refused to budge. The following day, Ramclam and two police officers went to the building, removed Leonardo’s items in her presence and transported them to a warehouse on Faber’s Road. He says they gave her a month to find somewhere to put her stuff and claims that once again Leonardo made no effort to do so. Ramclam alleges that he contacted the police several times for assistance, but found no help there either and so when the owner of the warehouse needed the building, he had no choice but to take the items out and dump them. He says two days afterwards, Leonardo showed up asking for the items and when he told her what he did with them, she went to the police and reported them stolen.
