Ministry of Blue Economy Objects to Vulcan Mining Proposal
The Government of Belize is not prepared to change its stance on Vulcan Mineral Company and its proposed mining plans near Gales Point Manatee. As we reported, Minister of Natural Resources Cordel Hyde says the Government of Belize will not approve a mining permit for the company, because residents have made it clear that such operations are not welcomed in their community. Today, the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Blue Economy briefly gave her support for Hyde’s position.
Kennedy Carillo, C.E.O., Ministry of the Blue Economy
“Well definitely we know that that will not really go anywhere. What they have been proposing has pretty much been blocked, and so that is not going to happen, so we are not going to discuss Vulcan.”
Paul Lopez
“The proprietors are saying that they are coming to Belize and hoping to have some discussions. Are you willing to sit with them?”
Kennedy Carillo
“There is nothing wrong with sitting and listening, but we have to stick firm to our decisions.”
