More Locally Made Products in Hotels and Resorts
With the recent launch of the Government of Belize’s M.S.M.E. road show, the hotel industry is prepared to incorporate more locally made products into the services that they offer. Belize Hotel Association President Reynaldo Malik says the Government of Belize’s investment in micro, small, and medium enterprises is welcoming news to the industry. Here is what he told reporters.
Reynaldo Malik, President, B.H.A.
“For the hotel industry, it would be a welcome move for us. If you are selling Belize and you are selling the culture and you are selling cuisine, then selling made in Belize would be the next natural step for us. So, you are right. And, the amenities we require for the successful operation of our hotel and resorts, soap, stuff for the gift shop etc. If we were able to source those things from local vendors, that I believe will lend it to the products we are marketing. Nothing irks me more that when I see, going to a gift shop and I see a figurine or a little map, then I flip it over and it says made in Guatemala. We need to do better than that. So, for us in the industry, we very much would welcome that the government is taing initiative to hopefully empower more of these small and micro enterprises to be able to put their products out there and it is something we can take and run within the industry.”
