Teens Compete in Ministry of Sports Basketball Tournament

There’s also basketball news tonight with the first-of-its-kind National Basketball Tournament held over the weekend for youths in Belize City. The Ministry of Youth and Sports hosted the two-day event for under-fifteen and under-eighteen youths who competed for cash prizes and scholarships for secondary and tertiary levels. The tournament marked the culmination of two months of competitions for males and females in the two categories. Minister of Sports, Rodwell Ferguson was at the event.

“For many, many years, sports has been neglected in this country and I’m trying to revive it and revitalize it. Our country needs sports. We are trying to reduce the crime in this country and if we can engage them in sports, then we are going to reduce crime.”
