Tracy Panton Wants Distracted U.D.P. to Focus on National Issues

Panton also responded to questions about her removal from the party’s Central Executive Committee in favor of Melvin Hewlett, who ran and lost in Fort George for the U.D.P. in 2021. Here is what she told reporters.

“If I have asked for his removal, no. I have not asked for Mr. Hewlett’s removal, because the consensus at the NPC, while I share a different view, my view is that there were no vacancies for regional leaders, because a decision was taken by the NPC on that matter as it was taken to the interim caretakers to the party. The consensus on the floor, after lots of discussion and debate was that this motion will apply to moving forward. I have decided that we have far bigger issues to fry. The national issues are jumping out at us and we are so distracted by what is happening internally that I would not seek to force my point on the NPC when the decision has been taken.”
