Tracy Panton Agrees to Keep the Peace within the U.D.P.

Tracy Panton, the Area Representative for Albert Division, has broken her silence on the U.D.P.’s deep internal divide. Today, she spoke with reporters about her position, coming out of Saturday’s National Party Council meeting. While she was present for the meeting, she says her colleague Patrick Faber is out of the country, but he was assured that he would be able to join virtually. Despite this assurance, Panton says, the commitment was not upheld and Faber was not allowed to attend Saturday’s meeting. Notwithstanding Faber’s absence, Panton says she respects the decisions made by the N.P.C. at that meeting. She has chosen to call a ceasefire against Party leader Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow or any other member of the U.D.P.

“Indeed we had a National Party Council Meeting on Thursday where a number of issues, internal issues that the party needs to address were raised and discussed. I can’t say that all the issues were resolved, but we did, the consensus of the NPC is that we find a way to move forward by finding a way to address some of the issues that are in the public domain, in the internal forums. The original motion that was put on the floor was amended based on some suggestions I made and the vice chairman of the party made. In his case, the amendment had to do with creating more regular opportunities for the voices of elected and unelected officials to be heard at regular meetings of the NPC, for more forums for the executive committees in the various constituencies to have a say, a voice for what they perceive to be happening in the party and to get clarification. I also requested  for the inclusion in that motion that we respect and adhere to the constitution of the party and that we also ensure that decision of the NPC who is the highest making decision  body outside of the national convention be binding, which it ought to be. Based on those amendments, and based on agreement by majority on the floor, I think may have heard one objection, I certainly am prepared to respect the decision made by the NPC.”
