Taiwan covers costs of “Mitch” emergency preparedness
Since 1993 they have become Belize’s biggest benefactor and indications are that the government of Taiwan shows no signs of slowing down. While the latest donation is barely chump change compared to the hundreds of millions of dollars in balance of payments support, infrastructure projects and housing funds, the two hundred thousand dollars presented Monday morning in Belmopan was one more indication that the Taiwanese are firmly committed to Belize’s future. The latest check, presented to Prime Minister Said Musa by Ambassador Kuo-Hsiung Shen is to help cover the expenses incurred by the National Emergency Management Organization in its efforts during Hurricane Mitch.
