Youths who robbed U.S. sailors arrested
Today, six crew members off a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter may be thinking that they were probably much safer patrolling the high seas for drug traffickers than facing a bunch of robbers that came at them on Wednesday night in Belize City. According to police reports, The men had been socializing at the W.B. Bar at the corner of Faber’s Road and Central American Boulevard and were on their way back to the port, when five armed men approached them and robbed them of over five thousand dollars in cash, jewelry and personal documents. According to A.I.P. Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B., immediately after the incident was reported by Russel Rhineheart, the ship’s captain, the police immediately launched a round up of known criminals who were in the area. Arrested were twenty-three year old Hubert Velasquez of Iguana Street, twenty-three year old Greg Franklin of Faber’s Road, eighteen year old Jermaine Monsanto of Nurse Seay Street and nineteen year old Rodrick Pitts of Central American Boulevard. The five young men were each charged with six counts of robbery. Alvarez says at this time they have still not recovered any of the stolen items or cash and the incident remains under investigation. The case will be heard on December third.
