President of the Nurses Association of Belize Says Thank You to Belizeans
Following today’s meeting with government officials; we spoke briefly with Renita Pop, the President of the Nurses Association of Belize and Oscar Requeña, the Minister of Labor. Here is what they told us.
Renita Pop, President, Nurses Association of Belize
“I would like to just say I am grateful to the Government of Belize, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, for sitting down with us to express the pressing issue at hand which is the salary deduction that nurses are currently faced with. There are some agreements we came up with. The Ministry of Health will be doing a press release. We will also be consulting back with our membership. And we just want to say thank you to the other nurses, nurses from the public, private, and K.H.M.H., for standing in solidarity with the nurses, and the general public.”
Oscar Requeña, Minister of Labor
“I want to take the opportunity to thank the president of the association and all the other medical staff that were there, the Minister of Health, the C.E.O. as well as personal from our Ministry of Labor and others. I think the atmosphere of the meeting went very well. It was a very cordial, respectful meeting, and most importantly we have found a way forward. This is the role of the government. The role of the government is to govern, and in governing a nation you are going to find that there are issues you have to address and as they come, of course you have to be proactive. We always have to look at things ahead of time.”
