Police will continue pressure on illegal boledo

Story Picture
The report on yesterday’s news of a city wide raid on illegal boledo vendors came as a surprise to most residents of the old capital, who have come to accept the widespread practice as just one more facet of daily urban life. No more, reports Assistant Commissioner of Police Hughington Williams, who told us that pressure has been building for the force to take some action.

Hughington Williams, Assistant Commissioner of Police

“It has been quite some time now that complaints have been reaching us and information have been reaching us. I need to say that concerning the illegal sale of lotteries from different location in the city. More recently I think that the demand for action has increased. Particularly, when we look at the fact that revenue has been lost and revenue is important to any country and something had to be done to stop this illegal sale.

They are not selective in who they sell to. They sell to anybody who wants to purchase. You just go and ask and they will give them the legal tickets and some portions that are illegal.”

With the undercover purchase of illegal boledo so easy, Williams says that police will continue their efforts to clear up the situation. Meanwhile the seven Belize City merchants arrested are free on bail and will appear in court on December seventeenth. The charges carry a maximum fine of one thousand dollars each.
