“Lady Mitch” finds a home
Stories about animals are usually a big hit on this newscast and one we reported last week was no exception. Tonight there’s a happy ending to this canine tale, which began when a storm threatened both man and beast.
The obedient dog who sat abandoned at the Burrell Boom cut off, a refugee from Hurricane Mitch, has been adopted. After the story first aired on Channel Five the Animal Medical Center received dozens of inquires from people anxious to be the new owner of Lady Mitch.

“We had the calls coming in immediately. As soon as the phone number was announced we got our first call. We had at least thirty people called to ask to adopt Lady Mitch. The woman chosen was the third caller. She was the first person with a fenced yard. We went to check out the house and the yard and decided it was a good location. Her husband came to pick up the dog today.”
Carol Garay the new owner of Lady Mitch received a thirty-seven pound of Ralston Purina dog food courtesy of the Belize Farm Center. And, if you are wondering what will become of the other thirty people who were interested in Lady Mitch?

“Well, we’ve kept their names. If we have strays come in or people leave the country and needs home for their dogs, we now have a list of thirty names of people who would be willing to adopt a dog.”
As to Lady Mitch, she’s adapting quite well to her new career as a watch dog. Hyacinth Latchman for News Five.
