Police Department Says Carnival 2022 was Successful
Earlier in our newscast we told you about a stabbing incident on J’Ouvert morning that left two brothers injured. While the siblings did not suffer life-threatening injuries, they are receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Thankfully, it was also the only incident recorded on Saturday with respect of the carnival activities. That’s because the Belize Police Department went into overdrive to secure the safety of everyone attending the weekend events. Deputy Regional Commander, Chris Noble explains.
Supt. Christopher Noble, Deputy Regional Commander, Eastern Division
“J’Ouvert we had a high number of officers and I believe another thirty-two were put in place to secure that. The Commander of Operations brought in more people because we were not on alert but strategizing to secure the city from midnight. So breathing easy seeing the last of it and the police moving away from that Majestic Alley area, within seconds, within seconds, there was camera footage which was gained which I looked at and it was maybe twelve seconds after the police took off that somebody from within the J’Ouvert revelers and somebody from the sideline had altercation. It was not fatal, thankfully, but it was an incident that we would have preferred not to have happen and we do have somebody in custody. We are hoping to get the cooperation of the victims and move forward with prosecution.”
