Stella Maris Says “Thanks” for Schoolbags and School Supplies

For Lythia Rhaburn, a teacher at Stella Maris, the gifts are welcomed by students and the school’s administration.

“Some of our students are not able to finance – their parents are not working because they can’t work because nobody would be able to babysit their child or children so any contribution is very welcomed and acceptable for our students. And a new school bag and school supplies are very necessary and the parents appreciate it. Everybody got schoolbags.”

“So everybody’s very pleased today.”

“Everybody is very pleased and happy and showing – “Oh, I have two rulers now or I have a water bottle, and look at my school bag,” and everybody is excited about their school bag. Every little thing that they receive they appreciate, and the staff of Stella Maris School appreciate every single thing that you guys or whosoever come and give to our students. We really appreciate it.”

Rhaburn says that despite some of the physical challenges that the students have, the school is pushing, as much as possible, skills classes in cooking, sewing, woodwork, art, jewelry-making cosmetology, gardening and chicken-farming. People who would like to patronize the school can visit the institution on Princess Margaret Drive across from Pallotti High School. The students also do weekly car wash events at the school yard.
