Woman Loses Life in Fatal RTA in the South
A resident of Bella Vista Village in southern Belize lost her life during a road traffic accident on Saturday night. Around seven-thirty, Jose Hernandez was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi pickup truck travelling in the same direction as Elsa Payaz who was on a Meilun motorcycle. As they approached mile fifty, on the Southern Highway, Hernandez says that Payaz made a sudden left turn into his path and he could not avoid hitting the motorcycle. The impact flung Payaz to the pavement. She was rushed to the Independence Polyclinic by family members, but succumbed to her injuries. Hernandez has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.

“Police officers are saying that they arrived on the scene on Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. where they saw a pickup truck driven at the time by one Jose Douglas Hernandez and next to the pickup truck a few feet away was a black meilun motorbike driven at the time by Miss Elsa Payaz, twenty-four years. The investigators gathered so far that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction from Independence Village towards Bella Vista Village where the driver of the pickup truck is saying that the cycle made a sudden left turn. He tried his best to avoid hitting that cycle, but unfortunately he did. Miss Payaz was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. We know that the driver of the pickup truck, Mister Hernandez, provided urine sample and is cooperating fully with the investigation.”
