“Roots” owner says station not for sale
Last night Channel Five reported that veteran broadcaster Colive Cabral was looking to buy the small Belize City radio station Roots Radio. Cabral told Channel Five’s Stewart Krohn that he and B.C.B. announcer Adrian Harris and B.I.S. Seth Hernandez were in negotiations with station owner and founder Murphy Maclaren to purchase the station. After seeing our story on Channel Five’s website, Maclaren called from Bristol, England today to state categorically that his station is not for sale. Maclaren says he had appointed Seth Hernandez to find a management team to run the station but says that he will not and cannot sell Grassroots which was created in memory of his grandmother who died last year. He says whoever is appointed station manager will have considerable input into the running of the station but that he must have most of the say in the station’s programming. Maclaren is currently attending a military school in Great Britain and will return next year.
