Honduran National Found in Belize is Issued a Removal Order

Carlos Jose Martinez, a Honduran national, has been living in Belize illegally for almost a year before he was caught by immigration officials earlier this week.  According to Martinez, he fled his home country in October 2021 when he, along with his wife and daughter, was reportedly threatened by gang members.  He is now seeking asylum in Belize, but immigration officials say that it is too late.  Earlier today, he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court where he was fined one thousand dollars, to be paid forthwith, before being issued a removal order to be repatriated to Honduras.
