U.C.B. Week continues
When we think of U.C.B. most people picture a campus full of serious students hurrying to and from their classes. But this week, the students have come out from behind their books and computers, and dragged the faculty away from their own pursuits to have a bit of fun and get to know each other better.
Since Monday, the students of the University College of Belize have been involved in a number of activities as part of the third annual U.C.B. Week. But the event does not only showcase the many talents of the young men and women; they provide an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to get to know each other outside the classroom.
Jean Perriott, Member, U.C.B. Week Committee
“We are trying to foster unity between the faculty, staff and students. Cause usually students would say, well you know, we usually only see the faculty in the classroom, they don’t let down their heads, they don’t hang out with us, except just a few members. So if we have an annual event like this then you know we can see them and have lots of fun doing that.”
Students and staff competed against one another in sporting events like, the three-legged race, sack race, lime and spoon race, balloon toss and volleyball.

“It’s not so much the athletics of things, you know the usual strict timing and stuff, it’s more the fun and unity and the getting together and that’s what we are having today.”
While today’s activities had the students outside on the grounds of U.C.B., on Thursday the public is invited to attend the university’s popular International Fest and Dance. At this event, students from Central America and the Caribbean will share their countries’ food, dance and culture.
Students from U.C.B.’s Belmopan and Toledo campuses are also attending U.C.B. Week in Belize City which began with an ecumenical service and motorcade and includes a student art exhibition.
