U.D.P. Vice Chair is Also Threatened with Expulsion from Beleaguered Party

Alberto August

What about the Shyne factor?  Is the continued tailspin of the United Democratic Party the result of poor leadership?  According to former U.D.P. Chairman Alberto August, working with Shyne Barrow has been a challenge and uniting the fractured party seems to be a daunting task.

“Does this situation have to do with the current leadership of the United Democratic Party as to why there has been so much infighting and turmoil since the last convention?”

Alberto August, Vice Chair, United Democratic Party

“It has everything to do with the leadership of the party.  You know, there are some people within the party who are saying, “Shyne Barrow done win, let us move on with reuniting our party.”  That is what we want to do We are already beyond that convention, we accept the fact that Shyne Barrow is the elected leader of the party, my friend, but his actions are not in accordance with uniting the party.  We, as officials of this party, it‘s difficult for us to advise him because when you advise him and it is contrary to what he believes in then he disregards it and they disrespect you, my friend.  How can you unite a party like that?  But we really our party to be united, in fact, the supporters of our party are calling for party unity, my friend.”

“If I‘m not mistaken, you, yourself, have been threatened with expulsion from the party for certain statements that you have made that are not in line with what the party would wish or desire of you as an official.”

Alberto August

“Well, you see, in my case, it is not about me because in the larger scheme of things, I am irrelevant. I don‘t consider myself to be any kind of top leader of the United Democratic Party. But all I want to see is for our party to be united and to take on its role as an effective opposition to this present administration.”
