Benny’s Interoffice Basketball League in Memory of Ian Mariano Sr.
Moving on now to the Benny’s Interoffice Basketball League in memory of Ian Mariano Sr. On Friday night, six teams faced off in three, action-packed basketball matches inside the Mexico Center in Belize City. The Central Health/Customs Enforcers took on the Digi Wallet Bucks. The Belize Coast Guard/Belize Port Authority went up against the Grace Kennedy Ltd’s Kings. And, the National Sports Council/ Belize City Council clashed with The Belize Water Service. The Central Health Team was victorious over the Digi Wallet Bucks in a fifty-two to forty-nine points finish. The Belize Coast Guard defeated the Grace Kennedy LTD Kings in a fifty-three to forty-nine points ball game. The game between the National Sports Council and B.W.S. ended with a buzzer beater at fifty-four to fifty-six points, in favor of B.W.S. The Interoffice Basketball League is twelve matches away from the end of the regular season. We spoke with Winder Ellington, the Director of the league.
Winder Ellington, Director, Benny’s I.B.L.
“Right now as you can see the tournament is coming to an end. We are basically about five days, or ten to twelve games to the end of the regular season. This is where you will see a lot of teams fighting for the four spots, because there will only be four teams advancing to the playoffs. So far right now, one team has clinched the playoffs, which is the Tuff e Nuff, because they haven’t lost any games as yet. But, aside from that, we have the Belize Coast Guard that teamed up with Port Authority that is in second place. Then we have the Central Health/Custom fighting for a spot, Belize Sports Council fighting for a spot, B.W.S. fighting for a spot. But, out of all of those teams there are going o be four solid teams that will be able to make it to the playoffs.”
