Broadcasters look to buy tiny radio station
If you thought that this month’s big media story is the demise of the B.C.B., it may be time to take another look. Today News Five has confirmed that a group of veteran broadcasting personalities is in negotiation to buy the tiny community radio station, Roots Radio. Colive Cabral, who has worked at virtually all the other radio stations in Belize, told us that he, along with B.C.B.’s Adrian Harris and Seth Hernandez of B.I.S. in Belmopan, are putting the final touches on a deal to buy Roots from its founder Murphy Maclaren. If an agreement can be worked out and the new owners can find the finance to build studios, buy a bigger transmitter and lease space on the old B.C.B. tower in Ladyville, then the once orderly world of broadcasting will be in for another round of musical chairs.
