Barrow objects govt.’s proposal to “revoke” judicial appointments
The Opposition United Democratic Party has accused the government of trying to revoke the appointments of the Chief Justice and Judge of the Court of Appeal. The accusation took the form of a letter from Leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow to Prime Minister Said Musa. In that letter Barrow repeated his contention that the appointments of Chief Justice Manuel Sosa and Appeals Court Justice George Singh, made in the closing days of the last administration, were done in full accordance with the Constitution. The People’s United Party has charged that the Constitution was violated because the then Leader of the Opposition, Said Musa, was not properly consulted on the appointments. What has particularly infuriated Barrow is that, according to his information, Attorney General Dickie Bradley has gone so far as to approach the Governor General and asked him to revoke the appointments. According to Barrow the G.G. has no such power and to even ask him is an attempt to subvert his office as head of state. When News Five sought reaction to Barrow’s charges from Prime Minister Musa, the P.M. said that he had not yet read the letter, but would speak to us tomorrow after he had.
