Leon Perez to Stand Trial for Murder
Thirty-nine-year-old Leon Perez will stand trial for the murder of Elton Morter who was fatally stabbed during an altercation in Hattieville on Independence Day 2021. In court on Monday, Perez was represented by attorney Ian Gray during a preliminary inquiry before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford that ended in a committal to the Supreme Court. The senior magistrate gave him his alibi warning, however, Perez, through his legal counsel, has opted to reserve the right to do so in writing within seven days of yesterday’s date. That opportunity expires on October third, 2022. It is alleged that on September twenty-first, 2021, Morter and a friend of his confronted an individual with whom they had gotten into an argument. That confrontation led to Morter being mortally injured when Perez allegedly stabbed both men.
