Plane crashes in swamp, crew unhurt

A B.D.F. plane crash landed this afternoon but we are happy to report that the occupants walked away unhurt. The twin engine Defender was on reconnaissance patrol over the Orange Walk District when around two o’clock it experienced engine problems. The pilot was forced to set the plane down in a swamp some five to six miles west of the village of Indian Church. Although the plane was extensively damaged the pilots and two passengers received only superficial injuries. After being returned to base by British helicopters the men were examined and released from the B.D.F. hospital at Airport Camp. According to the B.D.F. High Command the plane was piloted by second lieutenant Lopez with Second Lieutenant Joseph as co-pilot. The passengers were corporal R. Figueroa and Corporal Ruben Pott. A full investigation of the crash will begin tomorrow.
