School receives $1,000 donation
On last week’s newscast we ran the sad story of a school feeding program almost destroyed by the acts of thieves… and then followed with the heartening news of a thousand-dollar donation by a Belize City businessman. Today the cash actually changed hands as News Five’s Jacqueline Woods, who reported the original story, made the presentation to All Saints School on behalf of a camera shy Archie Lee.
Vetaline Thompson, Principal, All Saints School
“Well I want to say first of all thanks to Mr. Archie Lee for donating this thousand dollars to us. And we will use it to secure the building and to buy back some of the utensils that we have lost and for the upkeep of the feeding program.”
Q: “How have you been coping since the thieves broke in here and gone with all your stuff?”
Vetaline Thompson
“Since the thieves broke in, we’ve had neighbors lending us utensils and we must thank the management of Silvani’s who had donated quite a lot to the feeding program. We have also gotten rice, cups from other donors and also three hundred this morning from someone who don’t want their name to be mentioned.”
The campaign against school break-ins was the brainchild of nine year old student Raisa Staine.
