British donate computer to fire service

Story Picture
They have taken their share of criticism over the years as well as experienced a few moments of glory. Today the National Fire Service got some recognition and a bit of needed assistance.

The donation did not include any fire fighting equipment but according to fire chief, Henry Baizar, the gift, of a computer and training program from the British, will be just as valuable in helping fire fighters improve their skills.

Henry Baizar, Fire Chief, National Fire Service

“The donation is a very good one in the sense that it will assist us in many ways in providing the necessary things that we need to provide for the fire fighters. In the sense of training we will be able to prepare pamphlets, training programs and we will be able to do simulated exercise, desktop exercises and many, many other things that we were not able to do without a computer.”

Q: “You have been making similar donations since taking up the post of British High Commissioner to Belize, are there any other donations planned?

Tim David, British High Commissioner to Belize

“Oh there are lots planned, but I am not going to open up my box of goodies at the moment. What I should say is that the competition for the amount of money that we have in the British High Commission is very great, I just wish that we could help everybody but we can’t.”

While today the computer was officially handed over to the fire service, by Tim David, the British High Commissioner to Belize, Baizar says his firemen have already undergone training on the equipment and are now anxiously waiting to do the simulated exercises on the screen.
