Anthony Mahler: “I Fear No Man or Woman”
Earlier this week, during a sit-down with Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler, News Five also got his reaction to the candidates who have submitted their applications to the U.D.P. for the post of standard bearer in the Pickstock division. Now, in the previous general election, Anthony “Boots” Martinez went head-to-head against Mahler and lost. According to the circulating list, two persons – a former U.D.P. area rep and a former U.D.P. city councillor have applied. Here’s Mahler’s response.
Anthony Mahler, Area Representative, Pickstock
“Before politics and after politics, during politics, I fear no man or woman. I don’t have anything to say about them. All I’ll say is that we are going to be prepared on our side of things. We are going to continue to do the work on behalf of the people of Belize and the people of Pickstock. If you look at what we have done in just eighteen months of so, we have paved at least five streets. We’re improving Mahogany Street, we’re building these factories. In fact, we are building some boat tours that we are working on, we are doing Berger Field. I am going to do a fish market soon on North Front Street and the list goes on. We have massive home improvements going on right now. We will continue to build homes, given out house lots. So we have been doing our work on our side.”
News Five has been informed that the list is preliminary. The process going forward is that the nomination committee will vet the applications to ensure that they satisfy the requirements. Those successful applicants will either be endorsed or would have to go to convention to determine the standard bearer for the thirty-one divisions under the U.D.P. banner.
