Mira Says He is Not Fearful of Opposition Candidates for Belmopan
When we caught up with Belmopan Area Representative Oscar Mira earlier today, we also asked him about his competition on the opposition’s side. Recently, a list of names was released with standard bearer applicants for the United Democratic Party. In Belmopan, four persons applied, including former Area Representative John Saldivar, former Mayor Khalid Belisle, former C.E.O. George Lovell and automotive salesman Emil Torres. Here is what Mira had to say about those potential candidates.
Oscar Mira, Area Representative, Belmopan
“As politicians and the Area Representative for Belmopan, I don’t put five percent of my time to see who is going to contest me on the next election. But, I do have a team who looks at these things and advice me. I think that the people of Belmopan are seeing the work I am doing. I think the people of Belmopan gave the previous area representative a wakeup call. I don’t think he has gotten over the fact that he has lost by over two thousand votes here in Belmopan. I think he is the favorite if I am not mistaken, because of his alliance with his party leader. But, I continue working. I continue showing the people of Belmopan that you elected me for a shop and I am doing the job. I am not writing for six months before elections. I have started working from the day I got elected and consistently working along, because we need to provide that service, along with the City Council we need to provide that service to residents of Belmopan. When I look at the other two or three names that have been thrown in there; I don’t see these new comers having any impact in Belmopan. I know them well. I know Colonel Lovell well and I know Emil Torres well as well. I don’t see them having anything that I will be fearful of.”
