Avian Flu Contained: No More Positive Cases Detected

In mid-September, we told you about a strain of avian influenza that was detected in the poultry industry in the north. In the wake of its detection, eight farms – seven in Blue Creek and one in Shipyard – had to be quarantined. In the case of two of the farms, the chickens were destroyed, and the farms sanitized, while the other six remained under quarantine. Since then, bio-safety measures were put in place and tonight, the news is that no more positive cases have been detected.

“After the farms were detected, the index farms, we did the necessary depopulation and we did further testing. Up to now, we have had no positive cases of avian influenza So that’s where we are right now. The farms that we found the disease in, those farms are being cleaned out and other measures taken, the biosafety measures. So that seems to have been working well. We have no further infections, no further incidents of the disease so far.”
