New principal for Belize Technical College

After months without a leader, Belize Technical College today has a new principal. At a meeting last Thursday, Minister of Education Cordel Hyde introduced the concept of faculty governance whereby he asked the staff to discuss the situation among themselves and recommend who they wanted as successor to Dr. Cecil Reneau who was elevated to the post of Chief Education Officer last month. After a meeting today, the staff chose Isabel Tun from a pool of qualified colleagues as the College’s first elected academic leader. She is no stranger to the teaching profession having taught at various levels for over twenty-two years. Her probation period will run for a year, after which Tun will be considered for permanent appointment to the post.
